  • Since July 2020, serving as Assistant Auditor-Controller for Nevada County. 
  • Twelve years as the Finance Director/Treasurer for the Town of Paradise. 
  • Thirteen years as Chief Financial Officer for the reputable consulting firm School Services of California. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting, from Golden Gate University.

Transparent Financial Reports, Audits & Information

 The Auditor-Controller serves as the chief accounting officer of the county providing independent reporting and auditing services to County departments, special districts and schools. The office ensures that financial transactions comply with government accounting standards and laws and accurately reflect financial position.  The office safeguards taxpayer assets by establishing strong internal controls and accounting procedures and also monitors and controls the County’s budget. The position oversees:

  1.  Accounts Payable - Controls expenses by auditing the claims for payments of the County and Special Districts
  2.  General Accounting - Audits revenues, expenditures, assets, receipts, transactions that record assets & liabilities and coordinates the County annual independent audit  
  3. Payroll - Maintains position control ensuring only authorized positions are paid, completes wage and deduction calculations, and completes required reporting 
  4.  Property Tax - Establishes bond and tax rates, audits roll corrections, and apportions levied taxes to all taxing entities throughout the County

Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)

  • The Auditor-Controller is responsible for the preparation and completion of the ACFR which provides detailed financial information and complies with reporting requirements for local governments
  • For the 14th consecutive year, Nevada County's ACFR has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting. https://www.nevadacountyca.gov/Archive.aspx?ADID=1349

Grant Reporting

  • The Single Audit report is necessary to maintain eligibility for Federal Funding. The report includes a schedule of expenditures of Federal awards, the independent auditors’ reports on internal controls and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  
  • The office collaborates with the CEO's office and other departments to review grant eligibility and proper grant reporting.

Public Records Requests

  • Nevada County strives to provide services and records in a transparent manner, which includes timely access to requested records in accordance with the California Public Records Act (Gov’t Code Section 6250, et seq).
  • The Auditor-Controller responds and assists other departments in responding to public records requests for financial information including the annual report to Transparent California of all County employee's salary and benefits.
